You are responsible for responding to the discussion board question below. Please use your knowledge of the theories discussed in the notes attached. Use only the concepts within the notes to build and answer the discussion board question, That means do not introduce a topic that has not been discussed in the notes.
Suzanne is a student who works really hard in school. She attends a secondary school in a high poverty community and the school has been designated as a failing school under the No Child Left Behind Act (2002). Susan’s textbooks are outdated and are used donations from a more affluent school across town. Unlike the wealthier school across town, Susan’s school does not offer AP courses (no money for that) and there are very few extracurricular activities for the students to partake in. Susan’s teachers have only been teaching for a couple of years and lack adequate experience to effectively manage the classroom and convey the material. Many of Susan’s peers are disengaged and her teachers are indifferent, chalking student indifference up to disinterested or pathetic parents and students who simply do not care (and the teachers do not question what is pushing students out of the classroom or the reasons why they are disengaged). Furthermore, Susan’s first language is Spanish and the school does not offer any dual language immersion programming– instead, it appears that teachers and administration perceive Susan’s Spanish language as a hindrance. Despite working diligently to improve her academic performance, and having strong, valuable, and meaningful connections to her family, community, and culture, Susan continues to struggle, feels demoralized because of her interactions with her teachers and their perceptions of her, and is contemplating dropping out of school.
Analyze the above scenario using one of the theories you read about. In other words, explain WHY the above situation is happening the way it’s happening. For example, if you choose the Marxist tradition you’d be using class/classism as a theoretical framework to analyze how class/classism is shaping Susan’s educational experiences.
In other words, apply the theory you select to better understand and explore what is happening in the above vignette.
