So the goal for this first essay is just that, to make sure that you are quoting and using direct evidence from the readings as you argue why that work fits the theme (of innocence and experience). Your essay should be about 1000 words (about four full pages), typed, double-spaced, MLA format.
I will show in class what it should look like (though you should have mastered this in English 101).
You must select at least four works from the “Innocence and Experience” section of the class textbook, and at least one of the works must be a story.​
You must introduce the works to your reader in your opening paragraph, and then you are likely to argue that these pieces are all in some way showcasing the theme…of innocence versus experience. You can craft a more clever or even more developed thesis, but a basic one like what I’m giving you is fine.
Obviously, you will be summarizing and paraphrasing, but a key is adding your own commentary. I will also require a minimum of four quotes, from at least three of your sources. ​
