Persuasion is a fundamental skill. In this assignment, we will explore persuasion in your everyday life.
Exploring persuasive topics can often mean investigating opinions and ideas that are different from your own. Remember to remain thoughtful and respectful towards your peers and instructor in your discussion post and replies.
Create one initial post and follow up with at least two response posts.
For your initial post, address the following:
Introduce yourself to the class. Include your major and anything you would like to share.
Think about a time in your life when you tried to persuade someone to do something. Keep in mind that this situation does not have to be a full-blown argument—it can be something as simple as convincing a friend to go to a specific restaurant for lunch—and it does not have to be a situation where you “won” the other person over.
Explain what strategies you used for persuading.
For your response posts, address the following:
Identify your peers’ most effective persuasive strategies.
Suggest at least two additional persuasive strategies and explain how those strategies would enhance their argument.
Remember, this assignment is graded on the quality of your initial post and at least two response posts to your classmates.

1st peer: My name is Christopher Banner, and I am thirty-two years old. I am currently in the Air Force and working to complete my bachelor’s degree in computer science. Currently, I am looking to finish my degree so I can commission within the next year or so. However, I am also starting a new job with the AF in March, as well as having a child in August so my spare time is limited right now. Convincing my wife to go along with me leaving my career field to join the military was something that took a lot of persuasion. At the time, neither of us were happy with the number of hours I was working and what it was doing to me psychologically and physically. So, this became my first strategy, to utilize the fact that we were both unhappy with the road our life was going down. After that, I just had to find all the positives that the change would bring, and I was able to present a rock-solid plan that was difficult for her to dispute. I also tried to anticipate some of her arguments that she would come back with so I would be prepared and able to properly refute them.
2nd peer: Thinking about a time when I tried to persuade someone to do something the first thing that comes to mind was when my husband and I decided to move out of New Jersey. That was my home and quickly became his home as well. In the long run though the cost of living was so high in New Jersey, and it just did not seem justifiable. So, I weighed the pros and cons of moving out of state and eventually convinced him it was the smartest decision. Some strategies that I used to persuade him to move where being levelheaded. There was no yelling involved, and really breaking down how much money we could save by moving out of state. Also, it was an extremely fast paced life in New Jersey everything was go, go, go and we wanted to slow down. So, by listening to his side of the pros and cons and then explaining my side we were able to come to an agreement to move. There was logic that I had when I brought up this conversation, the logic was what was best for our family at the time and how could be slow down a bit and enjoy our family.
* I had to persuade my mom that it was a good opportunity for my Mom from California to Georgia for a fresh start I wanted to make choices for my self and to better my self. She was scared because i was her only daughter I neve been on my own before.
* introduction: My major is fashion merchandising management once I graduate I want to open my own online boutique and also become a fashion stylist. I always been passion about fashion but never really gave my self a chance to pursue it
