Now that we have experience writing an editorial, we will analyze and refine our editorial writing techniques and apply them by writing another piece relevant to this week’s topic. Writing is a skill that requires us to revisit, revise, and improve as our proficiency grows. Before you begin your editorial this week, give some attention to the following considerations.
Much of the assigned content is editorials written by others. Were they effective? How were they structured? Do you agree? Disagree? Do you find one to be better written than another? If so, how? Is there anything you would like to emulate as you complete your editorial?
Throughout this course and the program in general you have received feedback on your writing. What has that feedback been? How can you incorporate the feedback into this editorial?
After you complete this week’s assignment, your second editorial writing piece in as many weeks, compare the two. Which do you feel is better? Why? Is one more clear? More persuasive? Better supported by outside sources? Is there anything you want to revise before submitting this editorial?
With these considerations in mind, the criteria for this week’s assignment are as follows:
You will notice the assigned content this week is broken into three sections, reproductive, genetic modification, and direct to consumer. Please choose ONE of those categories for your editorial, and represent a personal stance arguing for a principle or concept related to that category. The same techniques outlined last week will apply, so you may wish to review the provided information from Module Five’s assignment on editorial writing.
