Formatting: All formatting should follow APA Guidelines throughout the paper.
Include a cover page; a separate page that includes the following information:
Student Name
Course section number (e.g., PSY- 150-E130)
Instructor Name
Date
In the body of your paper: Center the title of your paper at the top of the first page (the page following the cover page).
Use Spell and Grammar Check.
Use Microsoft Word (and save to .docx or .rtf) and Times New Roman 12-point font.
Your paper should be 1.5 to 2 pages, double-spaced. (The cover page and reference page 2023 Spring Semester – Dr. K. Polk
do not count towards the 1.5 to 2-pages.) Include a separate Reference page (the last page of your paper): Type the word “References” at the top of this page.
Be sure to properly give credit (cite) all information derived from your sources. Cite all of your sources correctly using APA formatting (If you have trouble with APA formatting, please make an appointment to either come see me or go to the Academic Skills Center for assistance).
More APA guidance: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_style_introduction.html
Content: Include an introductory paragraph that introduces the topic and conveys the direction you intend to take your discussion during the paper.
Include a concluding paragraph summarizing your paper and the main points you have covered. Be sure not to introduce new information in the conclusion.
Use at least three (3) outside sources (one may be your textbook) to discuss the topic. Use the provided template – it will help you with APA formatting.
Use and define psychological and academic vocabulary in your paper. Maintaining an academic (professional) tone is important.
Avoid the use of first or second person pronouns (I, we, you, us) Avoid contractions (can’t, won’t, should’ve, they’re, etc.).
If you believe that a relevant story from your personal life and experience will best support your topic, keep it to a very small portion of your paper. In this case, the use of “I” is appropriate, but should be used sparingly. The bulk of your paper should be objective and research-based. Be sure to present the topic you choose from the viewpoint of psychological principals and theories, not personal opinion.
Refer to the rubric to help guide your work toward excellence.
Ethical Considerations: 2023 Spring Semester – Dr. K. Polk
Put all information in your own words. If you copy another source too closely, you will lose significant points.
Be sure that you only submit a paper that you yourself have written for this class. Do not submit a paper that has been previously submitted for another class. This is technically self-plagiarism and will significantly lower your score.
